    Two years ago, Ma Healey had never met her great-grandson, now she’s raising him.

    Kea Kids News visited the Taranaki town of Waitara to meet whanau who are bringing up their great-grandchildren.

    Waitara Central School Principal Sharren Read says that cross-generational parenting is common at the school, with up to five great-grandparents caring for students.

    Eight-year-old Seaton Reavil told Kea Kids reporter Arcadiah Vaughan that being raised by his great-grandparents was, “really fun and special … because I didn’t get much time with my mum and dad.”
